Here's a list of just some of the exciting new attractions, events and promotions that our occuring in our member destinations. Just find the Web site of each featured destination on the right sidebar to learn more. Experience the Midwest's largest sled dog race as a volunteer - it's a once in a lifetime adventure! It's an action packed weekend February 5-7, 2010 and one you will never forget. The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race, invites you to experience the Midwest's largest and most exciting sled dog race as a participating volunteer. Over 70 sled dog teams come to Bayfield to compete in this top sled dog event. Beloit serves up five unique, quintessential supper clubs that travelers won't want to drive by without sampling. The requisite for membership is simply a desire for an evening of casual drinking, good times and gluttonous eating. One is an old roadhouse that was the site of a deadly card game; another has a long and colorful history from its origins as a house of ill repute and one is even located in a restored historic poultry hatchery. As part of Visit Eau Claire’s new marketing initiative, we have launched a new website, www.visiteauclaire.com. Our new site has many great new features including: travel blogs, Travelocity reviews, the ability to book a hotel directly, and a custom trip builder. Visit Eau Claire is also a part of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites and blogs. The Fox Cities will soon be home to an authentic Dutch Windmill. The 100-foot tall windmill is currently being built in the Netherlands, and will be transported in pieces to Little Chute where it will be reassembled. Its blades, often called “sails,” will be 80 feet long and its millstones will weigh 4,400 pounds. The windmill will be open to the public and actively grinding grain in June 2010. Cruise Lake Winnebago in style aboard Fond du Lac's Lakeside Spirit. Let yourself be taken in by the romance of cool lake breezes. Enjoy pleasant conversation, mouth-watering food and refreshing beverages as you view the Niagara Escarpment. Experience the beautiful shoreline from a climate controlled cabin or on an open air upper deck on Lake Winnebago's only excursion craft. Twelve Tall Ships® will fill the waters of the Fox River in downtown Green Bay August 13-15, 2010. The ships will be docked at Leicht Memorial Park and at other riverfront areas. Green Bay is the only city in the state to host a Tall Ships Challenge event of this size and scope. The tall ships, including international vessels, race runs through all five Great Lakes making port appearances throughout the US and Canada. At Kenosha’s new, one-of-a-kind Civil War Museum, first-person historical perspectives and interactive exhibits tell of the personal contributions and sacrifice by Upper Midwesterns. Coming in Spring 2010, the Lighthouse Keeper’s Dwelling at the Southport Light Station is expected to open as a maritime museum. After its inaugural event was so well received in 2009, Taste of Wisconsin returns to Kenosha’s lakeshore in August 2010. |
